The Mermen were Vassa's subjects.
History[]
Vassa once led the Mermen in an attack against Atlantis with giant mechanical whale ships. Her goal was to supplant Aquaman as supreme ruler of the seas but she and her warriors were defeated by Aquaman ("Vassa, Queen of the Mermen").
When their Queen, Vassa became part of the Trio of Terror, the Mermen were forced to work alongside the Mantamen and The Brain's henchmen. They briefly captured Aqualad but were defeated by Aquaman. They later battled against their former allies ("Trio of Terror").
